Communication between people is based on language (explicit communication) and immediate information (implicit communication). However, the language alone determines only some small parts of useful information. Much more of importance is the immediate information, which appear during the communication (such as body language, time, place, current situation etc.). This information is called context information and describes the context in which communication takes place. The unconscious consideration of the situation during the communication and the fundamental understanding of additional information cannot automatically be detected by the computer. Therefore the interaction between a person and a computer is much more difficult to be realize.

This work focuses on this topic. It deals with recording, processing and adoption of context information. If a user is mobile, his context changes very fast.
These changes can be used for the adaptation of user interfaces, for the delivery of relevant information and services as well for the offer of context-sensitive services. To gain knowledge of existing possibilities and solutions, a literature retrieval was carried out about information systems for mobile users and required terms (context, context information, context-sensitive services etc.). The results of the retrieval and the concerning evaluation criteria for a context-sensitive system are introduced in this dissertation.

The central point of the dissertation is the architecture of the information system SFINKS.
The system is characterized by the fact, that it provides individual information and services anytime and anywhere to the users. The scientific innovations conists in the conception of the data processing, which realizes an optimal adaptation of information to a mobile user and his changing context. The system has not only been theoretically designed, but also practically built. The dissertation contains the description of the demonstrator and the user interfaces.

The validation of the introduced architecture is carried out in the demonstrator based on different tests. It is executed based on the following evaluation criteria. The system is evaluated regarding the independence of user terminals, interfaces and communication technologies, as well as the extendibility of architecture and context sensitivity.
